Category Archives: Voting

I voted because I want to be part of the political process. I voted to support the people who I think will best represent me and my views. I voted because one vote — even mine — really does make a difference. I voted in a show of both solidarity and defiance. I voted not because I was filled with hope or enthusiasm but because neither of those things are really part of my political zeitgeist right now. I voted because I was raised to believe that those who don’t vote can’t complain about the government. I voted because that’s what mature people do as part of living in a free society. I’m Jack. I’m American. And I voted.

i_votedAt 0637 this morning I Baracked the Vote at my precinct. I did not, however, get an “I Voted” sticker. Jefferson County doesn’t give them — an according to one of the poll workers hasn’t for years. I thought I was just not getting them. This year though there was free stuff involved, and like Sally Brown, all I want is what I have coming to me, all I want is my fair share. Sorry. So I had them write out a note that stated I had voted. So, I was content until I got to work and saw the people voting outside Jefferson County who had stickers! I know, it’s silly, but I feel slighted. As long as Barack wins, I’ll be okay. I’m not paying much attention to the election results, and I just can’t stand it. I want to see him as the President of the United States — not the first bi-racial or black or [insert label] but the person who will lead our country out of perdition.

I had a call from the Little Cub on his way home from work this morning, and we were trying to find his polling place. The websites in Ohio were pretty jammed up — with people searching I surmised. He finally found it and voted. This evening he was headed out for his free Starbuck’s.

On a personal note about my candidate of choice, I feel really bad for Obama that his grandmother passed on the eve of this historic event.

In other news…It was also the first flu shot day at work. A friend and I have a tradition of going down together. We had been 6513725443_origgoing to post pone it until one of the later times when we heard the serum was gone — happens frequently. Then we heard they had more, so we zipped down to the second floor, rolled up out sleeves, and took one in the arm. I’ve taken flu shots for at least the last fifteen years and never had an incident other than the expected muscle soreness. This year I took it in the right arm, and it looks like he (yes, it was a male nursing student from UofL who gave me the shot) got me right in my Unitarian Chalice.

Something I’ve noticed of late is that my spelling is improving. Now if my proof-reading skills of my own work would get better…
