take away my cup of drink
and my body shall live on
throw my chocolate in the fire
and somehow i’ll get on
take away all pleasure
make me into a saint
i’ll become a zombie
a living breathing haint
when you kill off my demons
my angels will surely die
and passively upon the bed
next to you i shall lie
let me keep my vices
the foibles that you dread
then you shall have anelic
demons there with you instead

my daemons and my angels
danced long into the night
the angels brought on darkness
to the daemons omnipresent light
the angels thought it funny
to atone for all their sins
by doing their fouette
upon the heads of pins
then beside the octagon
the daemons tended bar
they served me clean martinis
and fine cuban cigars
jack may be nimble
but never is he quick
one more gin martini though
and jack will be quite sick
when enough i’d had my fill
decided to call it quits
my angels and my daemons
threw a hellish fit
it’s all in moderation
my angels said to me
all play and no work
makes jack fun company
my daemons said they understood
and carried me to bed
they lay me down on silken sheets
gave a powder for my head
and then they took the angels
out for some more fun
like some urbane vampire
jack’s will sleep with rising sun

Happy Valentine’s Day

i thought i’d exorcise my angels
to give my daemons room
at first they were delighted
to rule both hev’n and hell
but soon the daemons bored
of all their knavish tricks
and bade me strike a flint
to call my angels back
now my daemons rock in hev’n
my angels light the gloom
and all of us are happy
we just escaped the tomb

I’m enthralled with the quote of Tennessee Williams: “If I got rid of my demons, I’d lose my angels.” Poetically, I’ve explored what would happen if my daemons left, but I think it’s time to take it a step further and look at what might happen were my angels exorcised.

Heretofore there’s always been a symbiosis of angelic and demonic. When the daemons left, the angels went away as well. But what if the daemons are dependent upon the angels? What if they can stay and reign supreme in Pandemonium?

Well, I’m setting off shortly to find out. We’ll see what happens. Of course, in Jack’s world, it’s always difficult to tell angel from daemon. And that, my friends, has made all the difference.
